Summer time is in full swing, which means that it is time to break out the patriotic decorations! Displaying a red, white, and blue color scheme is probably the best way to show that good ol’ fashioned American pride but, it can also be overwhelming. Here are some tips to help you decorate for the summer months without going too overboard.

It is a good idea to begin decorating by using a color scheme instead of a pattern. Use different pieces that are red, white, or blue. It helps to create the feel of an American flag without too many different designs and patterns. For example, if you are decorating a table, opt for a solid red color plate with red cups on a blue table cloth. Adding some neutral colors will help balance things out too.

Flags are great for centerpieces. To create a simple patriotic centerpiece, take some small American flags (about 3-4) and place them in a mason jar along with some fresh flowers. Finish it off with a ribbon tied around the mouth of the jar. Instead of flags, try creating paper rockets. Roll patriotic scrapbooking paper into a tube and secure with glue. Then cut a slit to the center of a paper circle; overlap ends and  glue together. Finally, glue a ribbon strip inside the rocket to resemble a fuse. Attach to a dowel and you have a unique paper rocket. Create multiple rockets for a whimsical centerpiece. You could even use the paper rockets to decorate other areas!

Think outside of the box when decorating. Even though the upcoming holidays are all about America, you can use other decorations alongside Old Glory to help make a statement. Paper lanterns are relatively inexpensive and come in nearly every color you can think of! Cut stars out of tin foil to add some shine and break up overwhelming colors. Use red white and blue bandannas to create a wreath or quilt them together to create a table cloth. The possibilities are endless! No matter how much you choose to decorate, you can be sure it will be a patriotic summer!
